The jury still seems to be out on Google+, so let me give you 5 Reasons Your Business Should Have a Google+ Page.
It may seem obvious that Google+ is a service operated by the mighty Google. Google is the most used search engine and also ranks as the number 1 website so it’s pretty safe to assume your target market is using Google.
If you directly connect your website to your Google+ page, when someone searches for your keywords, they will not only see your listing with your picture (Google Authorship) but they will also see your Google+ activity.
You will also improve your visibility by seeing your content shown on the right side of the search page.
This really helps you in the search engine results because people tend to be drawn to the listings with pictures. Also if someone is logged into their Google account they can add you to their circles straight from the listings page.
Google+ has been quite adamant that the personal profiles are to be used for people only. If you create a personal profile for a business, brand or anything other than a real person then you run the risk of having your profile removed. There is a little grey area here, especially when you, as a person, are your brand but Google does like to have the last laugh so be warned!
Now when you set up your Google+ Page you an choose to set up a separate password so that you can log in as the Page and +One or comment as the page instead of as your profile. Details for that can be found here: Set up a password for your page
You may not believe it because you haven’t fully embraced Google+ yet but according to a study undertaken at the end of 2012, Google+ had become the second largest social network after Facebook. I can only see the number of users growing as people latch on to the integration with Google+ and YouTube and Gmail. You can read the full report here.
Google+ offers Hangouts, which include extras such as screen sharing, Google docs integration, notes and sketchpad sharing and named hangouts. Business pages can have small group video chats with up to ten people. So basically you can offer a small group webinar-type meeting for a group of your followers. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn don’t offer anything comparable with that.
As Google+ add to their Hangout features this will become an invaluable business tool and what’s more it’s free!
Google+ Pages give you the same option to add your followers to circles as on your Google+ Personal Page. This means you can specifically target certain groups of your followers by location, prospects, customers, etc.
You can segment your followers and offer them different messages or incentives. Imagine you wanted to offer your VIP clients a special upgrade discount – you could do this via the circle you had created for this group of followers.
There are more advantages to having a Google+ page for your business. These are just my top 5. It’s always daunting to have to learn a new social media platform but I highly recommend you get started with Google+.
You can start right now by adding me to your circles. I will gladly add you back and look forward to watching your Google+ presence grow.
